I’ve recently been fortunate to work on the content for the #UNFSS2021 Pre-Summit, which was held in Rome, on 26th-28th July.

Although mine was only a small role, it was empowering to be part of such a large event (more than 20,000 virtual delegates and 500 in-person, from 190 countries) and we were delighted with the feedback we received.

The UN Food Systems Summit 2021, which takes place in New York, in September, will bring diverse actors from around the world to leverage the power of food systems to deliver progress on all of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It really got me thinking about how I, my fellow interpreters, and my LI community can be more sustainable, what great tips or tricks do you have to share? Share them in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.

If you’ve been following me for some time here, you’ll have heard me talking about the importance of keeping your online presence up to date – it’s the best way to help potential clients find you! 🔭 And here’s a story to prove it:

A recent client looking for an interpreter let me know they discovered my profile on the Chartered Institute of Linguists website. 🔎 Wanting to know more about my skills and experience, they visited my website to check my credentials against their assignment.

After listening to their requirements, I guided them from one interpreter to an interpreting pair, and even project-managed this process on their behalf. ✅ So not only did the client have a better outcome than they expected, they had stress-free, time-saving process with me on board! 💫

Moral of the story? Make yourself and your skills easy to find online. 💻

I’ve really enjoyed being down in Carbis Bay where the #G7 Summit was held earlier this year and it’s got me looking forward to the #COP26 which the UK has been chosen to host later in the year in partnership with Italy.

I’m incredibly passionate about climate change and building a better future for our generations to come and there is a real opportunity here as both the UK and Italy agree on the need to build back better following the impact of COVID-19.

International partners from around the world will be joining the event and we’re really looking forward to it, to see more about this event and others I’m passionate about, keep reading my posts!

Focus on building the new!

There’s a reason that Socrates is highly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers in history.

His thoughts resonate throughout the ages and still offer as much insight as guidance as they did when they were first spoken.

The world has changed irrevocably over the last 12 months, in some ways for the better and others less so, but it is no use dwelling on the past. 💭

We learn from it, and we move forward.

Like all of you, I’ve had to adapt the way I work during lockdown, and although it’s presented me with many challenges, it has also made me far more agile.

I was recently able to deliver a certified marriage certificate within just one hour of the request coming through! Proof, if ever it was needed, that language barriers shouldn’t be an obstacle to slow your life and business. An exciting new chapter as we return to face-to-face interpreting

What a busy few weeks it’s been!

The excitement of the Euros, lockdown restrictions lifting across the UK, and some very, very warm weather (please, pass me the gelato)!

As I get ready to meet people face-to-face again, I want to make sure everyone’s up to date with my activities and work. There is a lot going on in the industry right now and I have so many exciting updates to share with you that I’ve decided to put together a monthly newsletter! I will be hard at work delivering these every four weeks directly to your inbox.
