A topic that’s grown increasingly relevant to my mission in recent years is our changing climate. It’s rapidly become a pressing concern: our time to make a difference to the world by mitigating its effects is running out. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make a difference if we act now.
And the UK and Italy will be key players in 2021: we’re the co-presidents of the COP26 summit beginning in just a few weeks’ time on Monday 1st November. This summit brings together the United Nations to reach an agreement on how we’ll be tackling climate change – most likely one of our last chances to prevent many of the worsening disasters we’ve already witnessed in the tragic events of recent wildfires, flooding, and most recently, Hurricane Ida.
But we still have the opportunity to protect the planet. COP26 will be a major update to the Paris agreement and should see decisive action from many of the world’s major players in climate change. It’s a dramatic political event that brings a chance to make a real difference for ourselves and our children – and I can’t wait to see how it plays out. Will you be watching?
