Closed captioning is open for business!
With remote working seemingly here to stay for the foreseeable future, Zoom has continued its incredible knack for innovation with the launch of live captioning.
Live captioning is a notoriously tricky thing to get right – watch any news channel in real-time and the closed captions are often several sentences behind and full of errors – but thanks to speech-to-text transcription company Otter.ai, speakers on a Zoom call can now see their words turned into accurate captions in real-time.
In our sector, this will be particularly helpful for non-native English speakers struggling to make out the meaning of a sentence.
Otter.ai currently only supports the English language unfortunately but can handle a variety of accents including southern American, Indian, RP, Scottish, Chinese, and various European accents. An exciting prospect with major room for growth and expansion.
